Shipping Cars to Hawaii

Check the liability coverage offered on your car at the time you book your shipping reservation. You can verify your personal marine insurance coverage for transportation damage and related insurance protection with you insurance carrier.

Shipping rates vary depending on destination. Average rate is approximately $900.00; the rates are the same for passenger automobiles, passenger vans, small trucks, (not exceeding 21f8L x 8fW x 7fH, or that have built-in accommodations for cooking or sleeping).

Vehicle must be in operating condition, with working emergency brake, and must be licensed or qualified to be used on public streets or highways. Shippers reserve the right to reject receipt of cargo if the cargo doesn't meet requirements for safe transportation and handling.

All vehicles must have a clean exterior enabling a vehicle survey to be conducted at the port. Dirty vehicles will not be accepted nor will vehicles with cracked or damaged windshields or windows. Remove all personal belongings. Tools, accessories, normally attached or permanently installed are acceptable. Anything not bolted, such as, loose radio, CB's, extra speakers, decorative, tailgate nets, and power boosters should be removed.

Deliver your vehicle with 1/4 tank or less of fuel. If vehicle is powered by alternative fuel, propane, electric, natural gas etc., contact customer service for special shipping instructions. By Federal regulations, fire extinguishers are not permitted to be shipped. Propane tanks must gas free and tagged by an authorized propane dealer or service company. It may be less costly to purchase a new tank at your destination.

An auto shipment booking is required prior to delivery of vehicle to shipper.

Be prepared to provide the following:

  • Name, mailing address and phone number of the shipper and consignee. The consignee is the person to whom the automobile is being shipped. Most of the time, the shipper and consignee are the same person.
  • General information about your automobile - year, make, model, license number, and VIN number.
  • Port of discharge - know which port your car is being shipped to:
    • Hilo, Island of Hawaii
    • Honolulu, Island of Oahu
    • Kahului, Island of Maui
    • Nawiliwili, Island of Kauai

At the Port Facility, leave a set of keys for the ignition, trunk door, gas tank and other locking compartments. The Department of Agriculture inspects all vehicles and will detain any vehicle without a key to a locked compartment. Keys accompany your vehicle to the port of discharge. Please retain possession of your automobile registration document. You will need it at the port of discharge.
